Álvaro García Díaz accused of sexual abuse of a child in Decatur

DECATUR, Alabama (WAF) – A man has been arrested following a year-long investigation in connection with the sexual abuse of a child in Decatur, authorities said.

According to the Decatur Police Department, a detective with the Family Services Unit was assigned to a case involving the sexual abuse of a minor on May 11, 2023.

After the investigation, Álvaro García Díaz was identified as the suspect. The case was then referred to the Morgan County Grand Jury.

Police said that on October 9, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for García Díaz for sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age.

On Monday, officers initiated a traffic stop near 11th St. SE and Somerville Rd. SE.

After the stop, officers discovered that the driver was García Díaz. He was arrested on the warrant and booked into the Morgan County Jail on $100,000 bond.
