Scooter driver seriously injured after leaving the road in Lisbon and hitting the mailbox

A man was seriously injured Monday when the scooter he was riding left Route 12 in Lisbon and crashed into a mailbox.

The accident was reported around 3:15 p.m. in the area of ​​214 River Road, where a 60-year-old New London man was driving a 50cc scooter northbound before leaving the right side of the road, according to Connecticut State Police.

The man crashed into a mailbox at a residence and was thrown from the moped, suffering serious injuries, state police said. He was taken to Backus Hospital in Norwich.
