2 injured after driver suspected of driving under the influence jumps curb in downtown Philadelphia: police

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Two pedestrians are seriously injured after being hit by a driver suspected of driving under the influence in downtown Philadelphia.

It happened around 8:30 pm Thursday at Market and Juniper streets.

Police say a 63-year-old man was driving his white Lincoln pickup truck near City Hall when he lost control and jumped a curb.

A pedestrian in his 50s and another in his 30s were waiting to cross the street when they were hit, police said.

Police say the driver fled after the crash, but was later arrested in the 1700 block of North Broad Street.

Both victims suffered serious injuries to their legs. There was no immediate information on their conditions.

Inspector DF Pace says it does not appear the victims knew each other.

The suspect showed clear signs of intoxication during his arrest, investigators said.

The driver will be charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-TIPS.
