Josh Allen was terrified that his proposal to Hailee Steinfeld would be ruined.

Josh Allen opened up about the fateful day he proposed to Hailee Steinfeld.

The Bills’ star quarterback he asked the singer and actress the question at the end of November.

In her Beau Society newsletter, Steinfeld conducted a Q&A with Allen about how she planned the big proposal.

“The funniest thing was we woke up and were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said, ‘Can we get married now?!?’ What are you waiting for??!’” Allen said, covered in MY! News.

“I replied, ‘Just give me a little more time.’ You didn’t know he was about to propose to you.

Although outwardly calm, Allen, 28, was anxious for the surprise to be ruined.

“I think what made me most nervous was that you would find out about the proposal,” he wrote. “It was difficult to keep secrets from yourself and have other people in your life keep secrets from you. Several times throughout the day a song would play and I would cry thinking about how special our day was going to be.”

To scare away the butterflies, Allen memorized the script of how he would propose to her beforehand.

“I said I couldn’t wait any longer,” recalled Allen, who has led the Bills to a 10-2 start. “I said I can’t wait to start a family with you. I said your full name and asked you very nicely. I said please.”

“I didn’t screw it up nor did anyone else,” Allen continued. “You were really surprised, you said yes and that was all that mattered to me.”

For his part, Steinfeld, 27, is still excited about the proposal.

“All the happy tears have barely dried,” she wrote. “Every time we tell the story, look at pictures, or even say ‘We’re engaged’ or ‘We’re getting married,’ I start crying.”
