Two students and a staff member suffered burns, one of them seriously, at a Dorchester school Thursday afternoon, authorities say.

A mobile lunch cart filled with hot water spilled on students and staff in the school cafeteria, according to a Boston Public Schools spokesperson.

At 12:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a burn victim at the Henderson Lower K-1 school located at 1669 Dorchester Ave., according to police.

At the scene, officers found two minor burn victims, one with serious injuries and the other with minor injuries, authorities said.

The school nurse immediately treated those affected and emergency services took the students to the hospital, the BPS spokesperson said.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“We are grateful for the quick response and are now working to ensure our students and families have the support they need,” the BPS spokesperson said.
