Much of the internet was left terrified after seeing what a child’s skull really looks like.

You may have noticed that the shape of a baby’s head is often uneven; This is because they are born with soft areas on their heads known as fontanelles.

On top of that, the skull bones in the soft areas have not yet grown together, allowing the baby’s head to “move through the narrow birth canal.” according Mayo Clinic.

The site adds: “They also adapt to the baby’s rapidly growing brain during infancy. A newborn’s head that is unevenly shaped immediately after birth often becomes rounder over time.

“In other cases, the shape of the baby’s head changes after birth. This is a result of pressure on the head when the baby is often in the same position.”

The discussion around a child’s head, or in particular the skull, has reached reddit – leaving the majority of the site’s users in horror.

“Every child’s jaws are full of teeth, but we don’t think about them until they start ‘erupting’ in the gums,” said the Redditor who posted the image.

The snapshot shows an unprecedented amount of teeth in the gums of the boy’s jaw and, to be honest, it is certainly unpleasant.

Many flocked to the comments section of the Reddit post, where more light was shed on the situation.

One person wrote: “For those wondering if this is real, my dentist I took x-rays when I was 6 years old and he showed me the pictures, which showed exactly this, all my permanent teeth waiting underneath. When I was 6 years old I found it fascinating.

“There was a time in my life when I wanted to be a dentist when I grew up.”

A second added: “Okay I’m hiding this post. This shit makes me so uncomfortable to watch and I’m not sure why.”

Meanwhile, a third joked: “Sure, it looks creepy with its double row of teeth, but if you think about it, it’s actually just the perfectly normal skull of a dead child,” and a fourth commented: “Yes, one of the Many horrors are found in the human body.”

While the age of the child whose skull this is has not been confirmed, many in the comments section speculated that the child was probably between 6 and 8 years old.
