Colorado head coach Deion Sanders said in the Show at the Tamron Hall during an appearance Friday that there are a couple of NFL teams he won’t allow his son, former Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, to play for (h/t Brent Schrotenboer of USA today).

To prepare for the comment, Hall asked Sanders this question: “Have you told him privately who you would like him to play for?”

Sanders then responded: “It’s not like that. It’s not about who I would like him to play for. It’s a couple of teams that I won’t allow him to play for. So it’s not like that. But this is my profession.” . I know what’s behind the curtain. We don’t have to go back there for me to understand what’s behind the curtain and what’s not important to my son.

Hall then responded, “What if he doesn’t listen to you?”

“WHO?” Sanders responded as the studio audience laughed. “Who? No, you should be referring to the owners (of the NFL team), not my son.”

Sanders did not mention which specific teams he does not want his son to play for.

There are still more than three months before the NFL draft begins on April 24 in Green Bay, but at this point, Sanders could very well be the No. 1 overall pick or close to it.

Parents have kept their superstar kids away from undesirable teams before.

In 1983, Jack Elway told the Baltimore Colts that his son, John Elway, would not play for them. The Colts drafted Elway anyway and ultimately traded him to the Denver Broncos.

Twenty-one years later, Archie Manning told the San Diego Chargers that his son, Eli Manning, would not play for them. Manning was eventually traded to the New York Giants on draft day.

Maybe we will see the same thing another 21 years later, in 2025.

Sanders said in his appearance on the show that he will “intervene” if necessary.

Would Sanders intervene if that team were the Cleveland Browns with the second overall pick? Here’s what I thought of the team in March 2018, a month before they drafted Baker Mayfield No. 1 overall.

HEAD COACH @DeionSanders

I love what @Browns I’ve done it this offseason, but if I’m a young quarterback, there’s no way I’m going to Cleveland. I would do an ELI MANNING if it were possible. #thinkreneso #TRUE

The Titans, Browns and New York Giants need short- and long-term solutions at the quarterback position and pick first, second and third overall. It’s tough to see Sanders (and Miami signal-caller Cam Ward) fall outside the top three, whether against one of these teams or another team that’s moving up.

However, the Browns could be the team to watch here. Simply put, Sanders wouldn’t have exposed this if he wasn’t concerned about a team having a chance to draft his son.

However, we’re still in the early stages of the pre-draft process and the college football season isn’t even over for another 10 days. Ultimately, there is a long way to go before Green Bay.
