Pendle Hill: Paragliding accident leaves pilot seriously injured

A paraglider crashed and suffered serious injuries in Lancashire.

The victim was airlifted to hospital for treatment for spinal injuries after the craft went down on Pendle Hill at around 16:10 GMT on Friday, rescue workers said.

Volunteers from Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue attended the scene and said it was the last of 16 calls this year.

Popular with outdoor enthusiasts, Pendle Hill is known in local folklore for its links to the witch trials of 1612 and also as the location that inspired the start of the Quaker movement in 1652.
