Occupant of sled seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle that was towing him: OPP

Police say a 17-year-old driver was towing a 14-year-old boy in a GT racing car and hit the boy; Driver facing multiple offenses, including alcohol-related charges.

A Friday night stunt in Ramara township almost turned tragic when a local youth was seriously injured last night.

Orillia OPP say the youth, who was riding a GT sled, was being towed by a vehicle around 10:30 pm when the vehicle struck the youth.

The 14-year-old was transported to Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital with “serious, non-life-threatening injuries,” a news release from Orillia OPP says.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old boy from the municipality of Ramara, was accused of the following crimes:

  • Driving a motor vehicle: performing stunts
  • careless driving
  • Novice driver: blood alcohol concentration greater than zero
  • Driving a motor vehicle with liquor available.
  • Obstruction plate
