RESULTS: Starting grid of the 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix

Jean-Eric Vergne will start third for DS PENSKE, while Oliver Rowland was disappointed with a fourth place for Nissan after his fast initial pace in qualifying. Mitch Evans placed his Jaguar TCS Racing in fifth place, with Maximilian Guenther sixth in DS PENSKE. Season 9 winner here Jake Dennis will start seventh, and Edoardo Mortara entered the Duels for Mahindra Racing to finish eighth.

Despite the threat of rain, it was a dry session but full of drama. During the group stage, both Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy and Envision Racing’s Sebatien Buemi had their lap times erased after advancing to the Duels. It was a big setback for the drivers, who finished on the podium here last season and will start in 21st (Buemi) and 22nd (Cassidy).

End

Da Costa was the fastest in the first and third sectors of the final confrontation, but a mistake in the chicane caused him to lose a lot of time and handed the pole to Pascal Wehrlein. It is still a solid result for the German giants, who secure the front row ahead of the second round. “I had this,” da Costa told his team over the radio, appearing unhappy with the way his car was behaving.

Semifinals

Wehrlein reached the final duel after facing Oliver Rowland who made a mistake in the final sector. “I should have easily surpassed him,” said the Nissan driver after the qualifying session.

Next it was the turn of Da Costa and Jean-Eric Vergne, the battle between them being very close throughout the lap. However, it was the season 6 champion who had the best lap and would now face his teammate in the final.

Quarter finals

First it was Rowland against Evans, with the Yorkshireman progressing to the next qualifying round. Wehrlein next faced Mortara, but the reigning world champion was in another league, going almost a second faster than the Mahinda driver, who struggled with his braking.

Antonio Félix da Costa beat Jake Dennis in a Porsche power battle, with Jean-Eric Vergne being three tenths faster than teammate DS PENSKE Maximiliano Günther in the surroundings of the Hermanos Rodríguez Autodrome.

Group A

The session began with gray clouds ahead, with all 11 drivers in the group eager to set an early lap time. Stoffel Vandoorne set the early pace, but as the wet track dried the times continued to drop.

Coming to the checkered flag, reigning world champion Pascal Wehrlein led the session, with Oliver Rowland second and Sebastian Buemi third. However, moments after finishing the session it was noted that the Season 2 champion was under investigation for a technical violation. His lap times were later removed, promoting Edoardo Mortara to the Duels.

Mitch Evans finished fourth at the line, but moved up to third after Buemi’s lap times were removed.
